A WebQuest for French Students
Introduction
Your family has decided to have a holiday in Paris. It's the first time you will visit the capital of France as a family and you are all excited. This is your chance to see what Paris has to offer. Remember though that each member of your family has different likes and interests, so you must make an intinerary that suits everyone. Once you are in Paris you will have to visit all of these fun and exciting places and bring back information and pictures for a scrapbook. You want to have a great trip and bring back plenty of memories!
Task
Your task as a "family" is to search the net for places in Paris that fit your interests, "visit" these places, gather information, and take "photos" of the places you visit. When you get back "home" you will put all of the information and "photos" together so you can share all of your family's memories of your trip to Paris.
Resources
A map of Paris - (Use this to pick places to visit!) If you click on this link you'll find a great interactive map that let's you zoom in to see detailed sections. There's a link to a metro map too. Using the metro is a great way to travel around Paris.

On the internet there are many sites to help you locate tourist information about Paris and find out what the city has to offer. Here is a listing of some sites that you might find useful.
Process
You will be assigned a "family" of four people- a dad, a mum, a sister, and a brother. Decide on a last name for your "family". Pick which role you want to play. Each member has different interests and wants to "visit" different places. Let me introduce you to your family:

You may also use search engines, such as Google to find additional information or other places of interest that you may think of on your own. Keep a written note of all of the web sites that you use so that you can list them in your group's bibliography. If you want an idea of how much money you will need to spend you can convert euros to dollars by clicking here.
Process
You will be assigned a "family" of four people- a dad, a mum, a sister, and a brother. Decide on a last name for your "family". Pick which role you want to play. Each member has different interests and wants to "visit" different places. Let me introduce you to your family:

Dad - Dad is really interested in the history of France. He is an architect and loves old buildings and interesting architecture. He is a keen photographer and so will want to climb lots of monuments to take photos from the top.

Mum - Mum loves nature. Put her in a garden and she's happy. She also loves good food and wine. She has an eye for a bargain and enjoys looking round trash & treasure markets.

Sister - Sister has learned all about Paris and is keen to see the famous monuments. She loves art and wants to see some world famous paintings. She's also hoping to buy herself a new belt in one of the department stores.

Brother - Brother is a bit of a science nerd. He has heard that the City of Science and Industry museum has some great hands-on activities. He'd also like to visit the planetarium. If there's time he wants to have some fun in one of the theme parks.
After you've decided on a role, you need to start your holiday. Each family member should "visit" the places that fit their interests. Gather information and "take" pictures (by printing them) of the sites you visit. Someone in the group will also have to find out information about how to travel around Paris, where you are going to stay (not 5 star, your family is not that wealthy!) and what the local currency is. Once you have gathered all of the information and "returned" home to Adelaide, you will need to make a "scrapbook/photo album" of all of your memories. Use the pictures you took and describe each location (in English!) from the information you gathered. BE CREATIVE! Think of how you can organise your information.Your finished work can be on paper or electronic (PowerPoint, Publisher etc). It will contain memories of your trip for your "family" to enjoy forever. Make sure the scrapbook is fun, colourful, and creative!
Evaluation
Your work will be evaluated based on its creativity, content, and how well your group worked together. The purpose of this project is to learn more about Paris and to work together as a group. There will be one grade for the whole group. Creativity will be 30% of the grade, content will be 50%, and working together as a group will be 20%. Remember to include a bibliography that lists all of your sources. You will also present the finished product to the class once you are finished. They will evaluate your work as well and will choose the best "scrapbook" for a class prize! (Not a trip to France! SORRY!)
Conclusion
Paris is a wonderful city with so much to offer tourists. It is rich in culture and history, with lots of fun things for tourists to do and see! Now that you have completed your adventure to Paris, you will have learned about the best places to visit if you ever take a real trip to France.
